2018/2019 Pre-Teen/Teen Lyrical with Dorothy Boice

AGES: 11-17 The word lyrical means "having a poetic, expressive quality." This dance style is expressive, subtle, dynamic, and combines Ballet and Jazz dance technique. Students will be challenged to express emotions through movement and tell the story being told in the song's lyrics. Although there will be a strong emphasis on flexibility, strengthening and technique combinations (in center and across the floor) on a weekly basis, the main focus of the class will be on expression of choreography. PRIOR EXPERIENCE WITH BALLET and/or JAZZ is REQUIRED for this class. The ability to perform chaine turns, single pirouettes, grand battements, tendu, passe, and pas de bourrees are a starting point in which we will be building on. Foot thongs or half ballet slippers (matching skin tone) are required and can be purchased from Discount Dance online. This is a non-observation class, and we do not allow non-TDF dancers to remain on premises during class for both safety and logistics purposes. Fortunately Troy is packed with LOTS of things to do during that time, and it's also a great way to get some "you" time with a book, errands, a coffee, etc. We are happy to recommend local establishments for you to spent time at, such as the gallery at the Arts Center, the local library, coffee shops, boutiques, walkable grocery shopping, etc. Class begins week of September 9. This class will culminate in a performance in the June 15 showcase, which all class participants must commit to. Please put this date in your calendar upon registration as well as the final 2 classes, as showcase participants must attend the final 2 classes as well as the rehearsal (morning of June 15) and showcase at Troy Savings Bank Music Hall.

2018/2019 Pre-Teen/Teen Intermediate Tap with Nadine Medina

AGES: 11-15 This more advanced level class is for the dancer who has three or more years of previous, recent, tap experience. TDF Intermediate and Advanced tap classes are rooted in strong, rhythmic stylings. Class is driven by intricate rhythms, trick steps, fast-moving feet, and exploring the various dynamics created by the shoe. Foot and ankle strength will be increased through regular practicing of foundation steps in order to enable the student to achieve faster and more confident, precise movement. Black, SPLIT SOLE, tap shoes are required, and we recommend purchasing them through Discount Dance online. No Jeans. This is a non-observation class, and we do not allow non-TDF dancers to remain on premises during class for both safety and logistics purposes. 2018/2019 Pre-Teen/Teen Hip Hop with Nadine Medina

Ages 11-15 This dance style can include the sub-genres of funk, street jazz, popping, krump, lyrical hip-hop, and breakdancing. TDF classes infuse choreographed routines with several of these known forms of hip hop, and may also include lyrical hip-hop. Lyrical hip-hop is fluid and expressive, and is often taught to slower songs. Shoes worn in from off the street will not be permitted, so please plan to bring a change of hip-hop sneakers (Etnies, DC's, Osiris, etc). Black or grey sneakers, free from excessive design and flourish, are preferred and may be required for the showcase. Feel free to e-mail links to sneakers you are considering, if you are unsure, info@troydancefactory.com. Kneepads are recommended, and we suggest this particular style: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000EAS4TA/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (price is PER knee pad). This is a non-observation class, and we do not allow non-TDF dancers to remain on premises during class for both safety and logistics purposes.
