2018/2019 Yth 1 Modern with Louisa Barta

AGES: 4-6 Modern dance is the challenge of ballet with the freedom and fun of hip-hop or jazz. Run, jump, roll on the floor, plie, spin, leap in the air, we get to do all that and more in this focused but fun class! This class is for the creative dancer. In this class, students will be taught the basics of modern technique. Completion of choreography, "safe risk-taking", experimentation, freedom of movement, and artistry will be our goals for the year. And who knows? There might be time at the end of class for a challenging dance game or creating our own dances and showing them off! Bare feet are fine. Leggings and a tank or leotard, shorts and a tank or leotard, or leotard and tights are required. No dresses, tutus, or jeans permitted. PLEASE ensure that your dancer has used the bathroom prior to coming to class. This is a non-observation class, and we do not allow non-TDF dancers to remain on premises during class for both safety and logistics purposes. Fortunately Troy is packed with LOTS of things to do during that time, and it's also a great way to get some "you" time with a book, errands, a coffee, etc. We are happy to recommend local establishments for you to spent time at, such as the gallery at the Arts Center, the local library, coffee shops, boutiques, walkable grocery shopping, etc. Class begins week of September 9. This class will culminate in a performance in the June 15 showcase, which all class participants must commit to. Please put this date in your calendar upon registration as well as the final 2 classes, as showcase participants must attend the final 2 classes as well as the rehearsal (morning of June 15) and showcase at Troy Savings Bank Music Hall.

2018/2019 Youth 2 Hip-Hop with Dorothy Boice

AGES: 7-10 This dance style can include the sub-genres of funk, street jazz, popping, krump, lyrical hip-hop, and breakdancing. TDF classes infuse choreographed routines with several of these known forms of hip hop, and may also include lyrical hip-hop. Lyrical hip-hop is fluid and expressive, and is often taught to slower songs. Shoes worn in from off the street will NOT BE PERMITTED. Like any other dance class, hip hop shoes are meant for class only and it is expected that you will have a dedicated pair that you wear only IN-STUDIO. We recommend skate-style shoes like Supra, DC's, Etnies, or even Nike/Adidas so long as they do not have deep tread and large soles. Black or grey sneakers, free from excessive design and flourish, are preferred and may be required for the showcase. Feel free to e-mail links to sneakers you are considering, if you are unsure, info@troydancefactory.com. No Jeans. PLEASE ensure that your dancer has used the bathroom prior to coming to class.
