About the Event

This workshop is guaranteed to make you feel great!  Grooves are meant to be shared, as a way for everyone to join in and dance together. While The Whip, Nae Nae, and Dougie are examples of new school grooves, this workshop will focus more on classic grooves from the 80s and 90s such as the Biz Markie, Steve Martin, and more! Creators of grooves often named them after the pop culture of the time, including people, places, and songs. For example, the Bankhead Bounce originated in a neighborhood on the west side of Atlanta known as Bankhead. The A-Town stomp was also born in... you guessed it... Atlanta (hence, A-town). We'll start by talking about the history of hip hop dance starting with block parties in the Bronx, as well as learn what KRS-One teaches us about the origins of the term "hip hop" before diving into the moves.

Sneakers are recommended. They MUST be cleaned on the bottom and not worn into the studio from outside.

NOTE: Our studio location is behind the address. While our address is 291 River Street, you'll want to map yourselves to 255 Front street (Riverfront Park). Parking is free on nights and weekends in the parking lot and on the street. Our doorway is yellow, and has a mural so you can't miss it!

See you on the dance floor!
