Workshop: Int/Adv Open Style

Learn a section of choreography from the dance that led to our first ever SOLD OUT Open Style session! This intricate and highly textured piece is loaded with musicality and has just the right balance of hip hop grooves, waves, strobing, and detailed movement. Working with the song "Contaminated" by BANKS, we'll put our ability to hear variations in instrumentation and musical delivery to the test as you learn this piece.

Once called Urban Dance, the dance industry recently made a much needed shift in language to represent this particular style of choreography. Open Style dance is a style that pulls from any genre of dance to create an often highly musical, textured piece that incorporates a high degree of creativity blended with movements you may recognize from hip hop, contemporary, breakdancing, whacking, animating, popping, locking, footwork styles, and more.
