Fall 2026 - Intro to Floorwork
Ages 18+ | No floorwork experience needed, other dance experience required (see description)
Service Description
Intro to Contemporary Floorwork is a class designed to build strength, control, and confidence in foundational floorwork movements. You’ll explore rolls such as log roll variations, develop strength and balance through weight on your hands with exercises like supported handstands, kick-ups, and cartwheels, work on weight through the tops of your feet with metatarsal jumps and slides, and practice inversions with forward & backward shoulder rolls. This class emphasizes proper technique, coordination, and body awareness, giving you the tools to move safely and fluidly while laying a strong foundation for more advanced floorwork. While no previous experience in contemporary floorwork is required, dancers in this class should have a minimum of one year of recent contemporary, ballet or jazz experience. Alternatively, we strongly recommend you pair this class with Intro to Jazz on Mondays. Proprioception skills and proper use of the foot as taught in those classes are required prerequisites. ATTIRE: For comfort and safety, please wear clothing that covers your shoulders and knees, as we'll spend time sliding, rolling, and moving across the floor. Leggings, joggers, long sleeves, and lightweight layers work well. Bare feet are recommended, and clothing should allow you to move freely without restricting your range of motion. CLASS SCHEDULE: This 10-week session runs from Sept 27 - Dec 4, with no class on Thursday November 26. The price shown is for the entire session. OPTIONAL PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITY: This fall, dancers enrolled in select classes will have the opportunity to perform in TDF Stage Sessions on December 4. Designed as a low-pressure performance experience, Stage Sessions gives dancers the chance to perform their class choreography on a real stage for an audience of fellow TDF dancers. There are no auditions, no additional rehearsals, and no tickets to sell. Your instructor will prepare your class piece during your regular class time. Participation is completely optional, making this a great opportunity for dancers who want to experience the excitement of performing while building confidence in a supportive community.
