Service Description

Vernacular Jazz Dance is a vibrant, energetic style deeply rooted in the African American communities of the early 20th century. Built on improvisation, rhythm, and connection to music, Vernacular Jazz celebrates individuality and the joy of movement. In this class offering, you’ll focus on original jazz dances of the 1920s–1940s, including iconic steps such as the Fall Off the Log, Charleston variations, Suzie Q, and Fishtails. Throughout the session, you can expect to learn vernacular jazz steps, explore your connection to the music, and play with rhythm and expression through choreography. Whether you’re new to jazz or looking to deepen your dance repertoire, this class welcomes all levels. Join us in connecting to the roots of jazz dance! LEVEL: This technique based class is for all levels of dancer. ATTIRE: Danceable attire and clean sneakers not worn in from outside (soles cleaned and tread free from stones). Socks or bare feet also ok. CLASS SCHEDULE: This 4-week session begins the week of January 4 and runs through January 30. The price shown reflects the price of the ENTIRE session, with one class per week at the time noted. See our FAQ's below for info regarding Cancellations, Payment Plan Options, and Trial Classes.
